I have a switch netgear prosafe gs748t. I want to divide this switch so it can manage two networks. x.x98.x and x.x.8.x.

I have a sonicwall firewall that I’m planning to connect from interface x4 to this switch. Right now the x4 interface is handling the x.x.98.x network with dhcp.

I would like to connect one cable from the firewall x4 to a port on the switch that would handle the existing network x.x.98.x and the new network x.x.8.x with dhcp range.

Thanks in advance.

I don’t any experience with this.

I am building a network for a client and currently he has 2 different business sharing a files-server (all under the same roof, same owner). Currently in order to separate the two out he is manually adding folder permissions for each workgroup that he has (he doesn’t run a domain and this is not secure). Anyways I am setting up 4 vlans for him and would like for these vlans to be able to only have access to their files and for the owner not to have to change folder permissions for each group. Another words, I want 4 vlans with 4 separate disks. Is there a way to do this without buying 4 separate file-servers and putting them on different vlans?

We have a fortigate firewall in transparent mode. WAN interface is on VLAN 10 and INTERNAL interface is on VLAN 20. If I connect a server behind VLAN 20 on the switch where the firewall is connected everything works fine. The problem is when I connect to another switch that is getting VLAN 20 over a 802.1Q VLAN TRUNK. In this scenario the server cannot be reachable. I think this is related to ARP requests. Any lights on this?

Just to clarify, all server inside VLAN 20 are reachable within the VLAN. Just that firewall traffic from VLAN 10 to VLAN 20 is not reachable.

Swithc is set like this

Vlan 1: Port 24 untagged, port 26 Tagged (Router)

Vlan 5: All ports Tagged

So I can get an IP from DHCP of vlan 1 conneted to port 24 on my management laptop, but I can’t get IP on hte other ports, I tried untagged or tagged and is the same. If I connect to the router on the port 3 or 4 I get an IP for each vlan.
I will set the Phones with Mac address on DHCP so they can take an IP from Vlan10 and the PC’s connected behind the phone will stay on Vlan 5
ANy ideas why I’m not getting DHCP replay behind the switch?
