I am working on putting together a web server using Apache 2.2.14 on Ubuntu Server 10.04 64 bit. I plan on having 10+ virtual host on the server. I would like for there to be ftp access to each virtual host, but I’m not sure what the best way to do that is. These appear to be my options:[Br style=”padding: 0px; margin: 0px;” />1. mod_ftp for apache looks like it will work, but it doesn’t seem to be very popular.[Br style=”padding: 0px; margin: 0px;” />2. Separate ftp server running on the same system

My question is what is the typical way to setup ftp access for each virtual host on a medium to large scale Apache web server?

Most configurations # use only name-based virtual hosts so the server doesn’t need to worry about # IP addresses. This is indicated by the asterisks in the directives below. # # Please see the documentation at # <URL:http:// # for further details before you try to setup virtual hosts. # # You may use the command line option ‘-S’ to verify your virtual host # configuration. # # Use name-based virtual hosting. # NameVirtualHost *:80 # # VirtualHost example: # Almost any Apache directive may go into a VirtualHost container. # The first VirtualHost section is used for all requests that do not # match a ServerName or ServerAlias in any <VirtualHost> block. # ##<VirtualHost *:80> ## ServerAdmin webmaster@dummy-host.example.com ## DocumentRoot /www/docs/dummy-host.example.com ## ServerName dummy-host.example.com ## ServerAlias www.dummy-host.example.com ## ErrorLog @rel_logfiledir@/dummy-host.example.com-error_log ## CustomLog @rel_logfiledir@/dummy-host.example.com-access_log common ##</VirtualHost> ##<VirtualHost *:80> ## ServerAdmin webmaster@dummy-host2.example.com ## DocumentRoot /www/docs/dummy-host2.example.com ## ServerName dummy-host2.example.com ## ErrorLog @rel_logfiledir@/dummy-host2.example.com-error_log ## CustomLog @rel_logfiledir@/dummy-host2.example.com-access_log common ##</VirtualHost> <VirtualHost *:80> ServerAdmin webmaster@skywalk-ent.com DocumentRoot “C:/Program Files/xampp/htdocs/Public/myweb/” ServerName localhost ServerAlias www.skywalk-ent.com ## ErrorLog @rel_logfiledir@/skywalk-ent.com-error_log ## CustomLog @rel_logfiledir@/skywalk-ent.com-access_log common </VirtualHost> <VirtualHost *:80> ServerAdmin webmaster@site1.com DocumentRoot “C:/Program Files/xampp/htdocs/Public/myweb/site1/” ServerName site1.loc ServerAlias www.adex-hk.com ## ErrorLog @rel_logfiledir@/site1.com-error_log ## CustomLog @rel_logfiledir@/site1.com-access_log common </VirtualHost> <VirtualHost *:80> ServerAdmin webmaster@site2.com DocumentRoot “C:/Program Files/xampp/htdocs/Public/myweb/site2/” ServerName site2.loc ## ErrorLog @rel_logfiledir@/site2.com-error_log ## CustomLog @rel_logfiledir@/site2.com-access_log common </VirtualHost> this is to define if i have to define several sites such as site1, site2, site3 etc., Then how to do the same effect for virtual hosting on Tomcat please instruct and tell On c: windowssystemsdriversetchosts script is : 127.0.0.1 localhost 127.0.0.1 site1.loc 127.0.0.1 site2.loc 127.0.0.1 site3.loc i also specify site1,site2,site3 etc., How to do it on tomcat? Anyhow, i would like to run several website on tomcat 5.5, please tell how to config and procedure for virtual host and any further additional efforts in order to serve more than one site on the tomcat 5.5 webserver. Currently, localhost is my server/domain name, i want the servername to be any of my sites name instead. It’s possible to setup virtual servers on one server & run each instance as a separate host with a unique name, thats what i’ve been tryin to do. Thank you.

Dear All,
We have a dedicated server and I have to set-up a virtual hosting environment where multiple domains will be set-up (with apache, mail servers and the rest) for my clients.
Because it is a shared-IP environment all zones will have records that will point to the shared IP.
My question is the following:
Each zone must have a SOA and a NS record (ok at least one NS…).
Must the SOA and NS record for each domain belong to the specific domain or should I set a specific domain and set up there the NS record that will be used by all the other domains.
For example: I have the domains example.com and test.com.
In their respective master zones the SOA and NS must be ns1.example.com and ns1.test.com respectively OR should I create a “central” domain mycompany.com set up there A records for ns1.mycompany.com and then use this entry in all the other domains:
e.g. test.com IN NS ns1.mycompany.com.
Is there any difference in the two approaches ? From the way I see it all domains all equivalent.

Many Thanks to all
