Can anybody, let me know how we go about backing up the database? We have veritas 9.1 but I guess we need to back-up live if possible… What is our best option?

I’m new to being a sys admin and we are having a problem that I can’t seem to fix.

Server 2003
Exchange 2003
Veritas BackupExec v9.1

The backup receives an error of 0x000fe09 the directory is invalid.

The directories not found are 2 mailbox directories for people that are no longer employed here. I have looked and can not locate the directories in Exchange – they appear to have been removed at the 30 day purge, these people no longer have AD accounts either. I have checked the backup software and can not find the mailboxes listed, they are not on the server (that I can find) and it’s starting to drive me a little nuts. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

I receive a message stating that I need to install SP2 in order to install.

Just for grins I installed SP2 again and no luck.
Ran the beutil to repair the database as suggested in a Veritas article and still no luck.

Any ideas? Anyone run into an SP4 install issue? This has happened on 2 of 5 W2K3 servers for me.
