I moved user profiles to a new location on a Windows 2003 server, then attempted to delete all the old folders after the move. Now a single “ghost” file seems to be preventing the deletion of folders 4 layers down. The folders are showing up as zero size so this is not a huge problem…but annoying in my attempts to clean up the file structure. I have tried to go through DOS commands to delete it, as well as Explorer Windows – but no joy. Any thoughts/tips/tricks welcome.

As seems to be the case for many people in educational or other public access environments, technicians are having issues dealing with user profiles in Windows 7. The user profile manager in the Advanced system settings in control panel only removes one user profile at a time and this is not efficient in a school environment. I have stumbled upon a program entitled User Profile Manager 2.0 from Forensit. From initial testing it looks somewhat promising. Has anyone used this program and if so can you provide any feedback from your experience with regards to deleting user profiles or setting a default user profile for all users.

I support an application that gives users several preferences to choose from. These are written to the Windows registry in the CurrentUser directory. Is there a way to implement or save these settings for a roaming user profile in Windows? Normally I would just export and import the registry for these settings between users. But Roaming profiles are restricted from some of these operations. Any ideas will be appreciated.
