Hi, and thanks for taking a minute to read my post.

I wonder if members can increase my undrstanding of this issue:

U3 creates a virtual CD drive and a “normal” hard-drive-like storage location when the flash drive is inserted. The technology was invented by Sandisk andmost of the removall tools look for a Sandisk device.

I have received several no-name flash drives recently with this type of behaviour but the devices are not Sandisk and the removal tools do not work. I have also tried U3-Tools with no success.

I’d like to understand how these devices are created to satisfy my own curiosity. But in the end I’d like to remove the functionality and have just a normal flash drive.

Anyone care to comment?

Hi,
I am using a generic thumb drive and cannot get any type of file to load up if it is past the 2 gig mark on the thumb drive. No matter what kind of file it is-movies, music, documents- it all will let me fill up until 2 gigs. To explain more clearly I put five 1gig movies on the drive. I can play the first 2 movies but the file is corrupt if I play past 2 gigs. Music is the same way. I have 20 songs on the drive and only the first 7 or so will play. Now I can fill up the drive completely and the files show up but only the first 2 gigs worth of data is un corrupted. I have tried formatting it and that also does not fix the problem. Also a friend told me that sometimes it is the number of files in the root and I needed to create a folder but alas that did not work either. Please someone help so I do not have to throw away a 16GB thumb drive!

I am a green IT employee. And, have had an issue with several laptops not recognizing USB thumbdrives.
When the user inserts the thumb drive the system recognizes it but in “My Computer” it does not show up. But, when I go to “Device Manager” I see the device, re assign an available letter then it appears. This was not happening before and no it is. Is there something I can look or change to fix this annoying issue. I have looked in gpedit.msc to see if anthing looks obvious.

Any suggestions would be great.

Thanks,
