I understand there are a number of versions of the Bluetooth Specification, recently V2.1 with EDR and V3.0 and 4.0 perhaps on the horizon. How do I determine what versions are supported by my bluetooth hardware? (PC USB dongle or internal Laptop H/W) Can I test that my v2.0 or v2.1 device supports EDR (Enhanced Data Rate)? Are the version upgrades purely software/firmware, or are they hardware upgrades?

My PCs been acting strangely for a while now. The issue is that when I plug in an iPod it appears in nautilus/windows explorer and iTunes for a few seconds and then disappears as if ejected.
This behaviour also exhibits itself sometimes when there is ‘noise’ in the mains. When I say noise, I refer to the disturbance caused by turning on a fan etc that makes an audio amplifier produce a popping sound.
I have tried different iPods, iPod cables, and even moving the PC to a different socket and different mains cable to no avail.
I’m guessing that the problem’s either the motherboard or the PSU.
The motherboard is an Asrock k10n78fullhd-hsli.
The PSU is a generic one that came bundled with my incredibly cheap case. Hmmm.

Has anyone done this before and are there any issues that I would need to look out for?

I am a green IT employee. And, have had an issue with several laptops not recognizing USB thumbdrives.
When the user inserts the thumb drive the system recognizes it but in “My Computer” it does not show up. But, when I go to “Device Manager” I see the device, re assign an available letter then it appears. This was not happening before and no it is. Is there something I can look or change to fix this annoying issue. I have looked in gpedit.msc to see if anthing looks obvious.

Any suggestions would be great.

Thanks,
