But we also have a large distributed environment where we’ve recently implemented EMC’s Avamar backup solution. We’re now being asked to look at the TCO of replacing TSM with Avamar in our datacenter environment. We’re only looking at our VMware and NAS areas right now. My question is, who out there has any experience with Avamar in a large datacenter environment? Our total storage count in our enteprise datacenter(s) is over 500 TB. My concern is the cost and ability to scale of an Avamar solution. We are a large AIX-Linux-Windows shop running predominantly on IBM hardware.

We use TSM Client V5.5 on our iSeries systems to do backups to a TSM server. We have a number of weekly saves that don’t always complete successfully. The TSM error code is 157. I have contacted our TSM Server support group but they never see anything in the logs on the TSM server that would explain this problem. If we resubmit the failed saves later, they complete successfully. I’m thinking this could be a time-out issue but not sure. Wondering if some setting on the TSM server needs to be increased. Anyone have any ideas?

We have TSM deployed but it needs major upgrade (v5.3.1).
I am looking at VDR, VCB and third party softwares like Veeam and esXpress. What are your experiences and recommendations? What’s your experience with TSM backup with or without VCB?

We used to have an Exchange 2003 environment that backed up full storage groups va Brightstor to tape.

we have recently rolled up to Exchange 2008 with out an issue (And are now backing up to TSM yeppy – no more Brightstor.)

Just been asked to restore a users mail box that left a few months back, pre migration…

Well I can restore it off tape, but does anyone know if I can import an Excahnge 2003 storage group directly into Exchange 2007, or do I have to build up a new 2003 box and use the migration tools?

Thanks
Chris Goodale
