  • Are LTO tapes backwards compatible. Why would I not be able to read old tapes?

We have 6 year old LTO tapes. We are trying to restore data from them using a LTO4 drive. We can not read the tapes at all. Not even the label. Can this be fixed? Any ideas? The drives are backwards compatible right?
