On another note, i want to secure my wiki to where you have to authenticate yourself before you get onto the wiki. The information is sensitive and i only want certain people allowed to see the wiki. Anyone have any suggestions as to how to pull this off?

Hello,
I am running SuSE linux 10 with Linux kernel 2.6.16.60-0.21-smp on x86_64. /proc/kcore has ultimately used up all my available disk space. Here are more specs as reported by Webmin:
Processor information Intel(R) Xeon(TM) CPU 3.00GHz, 4 cores
System uptime 26 days, 1 hours, 01 minutes
Running processes 152
CPU load averages 3.07 (1 min) 0.89 (5 mins) 0.30 (15 mins)
Real memory 5.77 GB total, 530.25 MB used
Virtual memory 3 GB total, 0 bytes used
I began deleting remnant and unused files on the 10 GB root partition, such as downloaded .rpm’s, etc. kcore kept eating up the space until the point where now if I were to delete an archived log file it makes no difference, I cannot write to the disk as there is no space left!
Searching the net for answers reveals a fallacy that kcore is NOT really using hard disk space, I assure you it has on my system! This false information is what got me to the point where I am at now. I performed a reboot, no luck, remained the same. Can someone point me to a resolution that does not require a complete re-installation? Obviously I cannot install updates or a new kernel as there is no room left in which to do so.
Thanks,
Brian

I have a Dell 1520 w/ Vista home basic, also an external hard drive. I am trying to use the external HD to boot my Linux on. I installed Suse the first time, and it set up shop on the external, but put the boot section in my MBR on the internal HD on the laptop. Now, not a big deal, I reinstall Suse to the external and point it to create the MBR on that HD, and then just fix the MBR on the laptop, Horay!! I thought. The laptop will boot into vista now but I attach the external HD and it will not even think about booting into Suse, (yes I have the BIOS set to boot from USB and yes I have done it from USB before with another device on this laptop). I am at a loss now and I am not sure what to do at this point. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you in advance.

/var/lib/gdm/.gvfs entry in directory is corrupt. How can I fix/remove it?

Working with a newly installed OpenSuSE Linux 11.0 (Gnome). The distribution at some stage sets up gvfs but somehow this file won’t play nicely (don’t know if is part of the download, created at install/config time, or created at run-time). The SuSE wiki suggests the problem can be solved by re-installing the gvfs software from an update server, but that still leaves the corruption.

Nautilus won’t list the file. At the command line, it is listed but only the fileNM and the “d” for directory is sensible, everything else is described with question marks (access, owner, group, dates…). rmdir won’t shift it. rm responds with: it’s a directory…

Is there some other means of a surgical strike? Should it be a file or a directory, and can I just create an empty one and happily get on with things?

Please advise,
