What do you need to configure to be able to share a 3583 tape media library between two systems using BRMS? System A is running V5R4, System B is V6R1. Have BRMS with the network feature on each. Two tape drives in the 3583. Fiber channel connections through a SAN switch. Network feature works fine, Tape inventory, media classes, locations, containers all appear on both systems.

Current issue is that each system only recognizes ONE tape drive – unfortunately both only recognize drive #1 in the lib – so tape operations cannot run simultaneously between systems. Drive #2 reports in under a different IOP but is not accessable.

Have been running BRMS on one system for five years, just added the second system. Can run backups by staggering start times (system B starts after system A ends).

Have an open PMR with IBM service on this – problem of course is finding someone who knows BRMS, 3583 media libraries and how they all fit together.

Thanks!

Mike

We use Ultruim 2 Tape cartridges in our ExaByte Magnum 1X7 LTO tape drive. Is there a source for the proper sized labels and a program that will create the bar code labels for these tapes? Currently we create these labels in MS-Word, and then cut down standard sized Avery labels but it is a clunky process and we are looking to streamline the way this is done.

I have tape library that connects via fibre channel. When I set up the tape library, I’ve connected it to an open port on a QLogic fibre channel switch that had an XServer G5 and seven
RAIDS. The tape library is running into speed and connection issues when the RAIDs are being hit with a lot of data activity, and I’d like to see if I can get it onto its own
PCI-X fibre channel card I don’t know how the XServer G5 acts with two fibre channel cards in it, especially where one card will be for a direct connection (the tape
library) and the other card will be attached to the fibre switch.

Has anyone installed a second fibre channel card in their own
XServes, or has tried a similar setup?

WE have an IBM 3494 with 4 tapes. We have 5 AS400.

I am trying to connect all the AS400 (fibre) to the IBM 3494 through a Fibre switch.

I am having trouble zoning the switch.
At the switch i have a fibre connection for each AS400 and a fibre connection from the switch to the 4 tape drives.

My problem is that when i try to do the zoning it only allows me to zone 1 drive to 1 as400. so i am not able to have a tape drive to all systems.

I thought i should be able to zone each AS400 through the switch to access all the tape drives.

Am i assuming wrong
