USB Flash Drives Not Installing On XP

Hello All! I’ve been noticing recently that certain USB drives have not been installing automatically to windows XP pro. I’m working on one right now and have not found a solution to it yet. A user needs to install a Sandisk Cruzer Mini USB Drive to her machine which uses XP Pro. Instead of installing automatically, it goes to the Found New Hardware Wizard and will not find a driver and install from there. I tried uninstalling what it tried to install under device manager and replug in the USB drive but the same thing happens. I’ve looked over some plug and play stuff and even went in to regedit to try to uninstall what could be left behind in the local machine reg keys. That didn’t work. I searched a driver site and Sandisk’s site but could not find a driver except for one for ’98 SE. And it won’t let me install that one either because it determines that I have XP and says that XP shouldn’t need to download a driver. Someone out there should have a solution to this. I’m not the only one. haha! But seriously, I need help because I know I’m going to run into this some more with other users seeking help with it. It’s gotta be something with the system and not the USB drive. The USB works with other XP machines, just not this one. Please Help! Thank you!!

Sun DLT4700 Tape Library

Can the Sun DLT4700 Tape Library be used with PCs and PowerMacs? PowerMac has external SCSI 2 port. Have PCs with both SCSI 1 and SCSI 2 external ports.

I am having problems with backing up a 2 volumes from my HP MSA1000 SAN to an LTO tape library. The volumes are 80 & 90 GB in size and contain around 600,000 small files in each set. The 2 volumes are RAID 5 and I am getting about 5-8 GB per hour back-up. I am also backing up other RAID 5 sets and getting much better performance. I am running Commvault V5.0 and back up through a dedicated Gig LAN. Can anyone offer any advice please?

Ultrium1 Autoloader vs Ultrium3 Tape Drive

Our existing model 820 has an Ultrium1 tape drive attached (the 7 tape autoloader model 3581, I think). Each night we run a Go SAVE, option 21 (1 hour) and our system fits nicely on one tape about 100gb in size. I’m configuring an Ultrium3 on a new i5 to reduce our backup time and increase our tape capacity. This time, I’m considering the U3 single slot unit rather than the autoloader.

My question is this, how often do you find the single slot U3 tape drive needs to be cleaned? I was haunted by a single slot 8mm tape drive, years ago, that was a PITA and needed cleaned nearly everyday.

Any info would be appreciated.
