RAID 5 is an array made up of three or more drives and allows for a single drive to fail. RAID 1 is an array mode up to two drives and allows for a single drive to fail. I cover the basics on RAID arrays in <a href=”http://searchsqlserver.techtarget.com/tip/0,289483,sid87_gci1262122,00.html”>this article</a>.
There are lots of questions about drive wiping on this website. See this <a href=”http://www.lmgtfy.com/?q=wipe+site%3Aitknowledgeexchange.techtarget.com”>search</a>. You can either change the password on the machine by using a tool like <a href=”http://home.eunet.no/pnordahl/ntpasswd/”>ntpasswd</a>, or boot with a bootable CD like <a href=”http://www.ultimatebootcd.com/”>ultimate boot cd</a>. There are other bootable CD’s like <a href=”http://www.knoppix.org/”>Knoppix</a> that can give you access [...]
You can backup w/encyption (AME – Application Managed Encryption) to the internal SAS LTO4 drive in a Power6 520 type box, but you will suffer a 50% degradation in performance and a loss of data compression. This requires BRMS which generates and controls the KEY for the encryption – though you need to export it [...]
i’ve got same problem and something like this helped me. just adapt it and lets know how it goes. vcbMounter -h VC_server.com -u VCuserid -p Passwd -a name:”Server_VM_Name_in_VC” -m nbd -t fullvm -r C:mntvm1 -t fullvm
I simply use the native backups (or LiteSpeed for larger databases) to backup to a network share on a NAS which is then replicated to a second newtork share each night.
EBAN is a enterprise version of dban and widely used open source data removal and destruction software. I would recommend DBAN if cost is an issue. DBAN will wipe the harddrive clear of any data on them by writing over the disk multiple times with 1s and 0s. I wrote a review on <a href=”http://analysisandreview.com/computer-hardware/how-to-erase-your-hard-drive/”>dban [...]
It’s been a long time since I worked with a Centura database; but I still have some documentation books, so I tried to find something that could help in this matter, but I was not able to find anything. It seems that Sql Talk (BAT option, which I assume you are using) doesn’t allow something [...]
A synthetic full backup uses incremental backups to create a full backup without using client resources and time to run a full backup. I think this is a very good idea. It will reduce the backup window while providing the same backup coverage. I don’t use this on my network, but it is something to [...]
You could easily just use NTBACKUP with this configuration. Here is a <a href=”http://www.ntbackup.us/Articles/backup-scheduling.htm”>good guide </a>for you.
This <a href=”http://www.partition-tool.com/”>Partitian Tool From EASE Us</a> Should do what you need to do. Install, Change to partition size and you should be good to go. I use this program as well as this <a href=”http://www.easeus.com/disk-copy/”>disk copy</a> program also from EASE US when I upgrade and backup Hard Drives. Good Luck -Flame
No you can not place online data on a tape. Tape can only be used for backing up the database. The recommended solution would be to get slower less expensive hard drives and use them to host a second filegroup which you move the old data to.
During the boot process, do you see a prompt to enter the RAID setup utility? If so, go into that and make sure the RAID is indeed set up. They do not come set up from the factory, you have to configure them. You will need a floppy boot disk with the raid controller drivers [...]
EMC’s Clariion series has a good range of Fiber SANs to look into. The Navisphere interface makes for easy management. I’ve also heard that Compellent is an easy to use SAN which is also easy to upgrade because it is module based.
It is possible to move a mailbox from exchange 2007 to exchange 2003, but I do not know about restoring it. Does not sound likely because exchange 2007 has so many different attributes than exchange 2003 does. But you could restore to exchange 2007 and move the mailbox to 2003. I don’t know if that [...]
Honestly, I would get on the phone with Symantec for support for this. That is why you pay your license and support fees for them. Every time I have had issues with backing up Exchange using Netbackup (not backup exec in our organization) their support team has helped solve the issue very swiftly. Give them [...]
I am unclear as to what your end goal is. Is it just to read the power consumption of the individual blades, because you would use ILO to see that, not SIM. Or is it to poll the power use data from some other monitoring tool, and you need the MIBs to do that? Or, [...]
yes we are doing online backup if this mean doing backup to disk. and yes we are still dooing backup to tape. The expert Like W. Curtis Preston does not recommand to take every thing out of taps. like alle the backup that have to go of site. he best situation is to backup avery [...]
Typically you set up the SQL server maintenance jobs to dump backups into the backup directory and then you use backup software to back up this backup directory. Otherwise you use software specifically designed to back up SQL like Tivoli Storage Manager tdpsql. All backup software (including SQL Server backup software and backup agents like [...]
their is a lot of solution. First do a cluste with both http server. and your load balencer will distribute the load. that is the most effective and reliable solution second use a tool like double take to replicate online data between servers. it acts like a cluster software but you can desable the failover [...]
This happens here/there and it’s just a matter of resetting the partition table, a new DOS label of the LUN(s) producing the error. Here’s a walk-thru of fixing this issue for LUN ID 6, /dev/sda. [root@esx1 root]# vmkpcidivy -q vmhba_devs vmhba0:0:0 /dev/cciss/c0d0 vmhba3:0:6 /dev/sda [root@esx1 root]# fdisk /dev/sda Command (m for help): p Disk /dev/sda [...]
