DS3200 and VMware ESX 3.5 configuration
Here are some information related to your DS3200 http://www-03.ibm.com/systems/resources/systems_storage_disk_ds3000_pdf_interop.pdf Storage FW should be at least 06.70.69.00 http://www-947.ibm.com/systems/support/supportsite.wss/docdisplay?lndocid=MIGR-5075356&brandind=5000028 http://www.ibm.com/systems/support/storage/config/ssic/index.jsp ______________________________________________________________________ From RickySR Thank you, but I was thinking more on the lines of how to set the ds3200 up so ESX will see it and be able to use the storage.

CPU overhead on DASD quota products
You’ve raised a really good question, particularly for sites with sub-capacity licensing (meaning extra CPU seconds can raise software licensing costs across the board). I’m unfamiliar with the these three products. Mind you, I don’t think I’ve ever seen CPU overhead data published on the web. However for many monitoring products, there is cpu usage [...]

Low level formatting for Microsoft Vista
I suspect there may be a hidden partition on the drive, that has the OS loaded onto it. The safest way to make sure that there is absolutely nothing on the drives is to <b>low level format</b> it. Have a look on the manufacturer’s website, and see if there is a utility there to do [...]

Restore old Exchange 2000 maibox from Backup Exec old backup
From your old data tape backup, restore the EDB files consisting of your original mailboxes on your Exchange 2000 to any available space even on a file server. I would purchase Ontrack Power Controls or Quest Recovery Manager for Exchange which can open up the edb files directly and then you would be able to [...]

Transaction Log – SQL Server 2005
Which backups have been restored is kept in the msdb database. Look in the database for tables that start with backup or restore. That’s where the information is kept. You can also look in the ERRORLOG file as each restore should be logged in there.

SAN material
My recommendations to gain knowledge in SAN would be to pick any SAN vendor from the big boys (EMC, NetApp, HDS,) and then review how their architecture communicates with a server (a vendor you already have in your environment – HP, Dell, IBM). Each vendor has different mechanisms but the flavor is the same. Nice [...]

Restore a Single Email Message from 2+ years!
I would “restore” this backup not to original location, anywhere else on the network. then I would look into purchasing a product called Ontrack Power Controls which would be able to extract straight from an Exchange database file (EDB). ******* In exchange 2003 you can restore the database to a <a href=”http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa998782(EXCHG.65).aspx”>recovery storage group </a>on [...]

Why is centralized storage so important for enterprise virtualization products?
Centralized storage allows for better access for the consolidated servers. Also, features like Live Migration and clustering often required shared storage. If you want to use full advantage of virtualization ha..vmotion…it is vitaly you use a cetral storage.

Raid 5 How do I setup?
That really depends on how you want to setup your array, how many discs you have, and how paranoid you want to be. I, personally, prefer to err on the side of complete and total paranoia. However, my lowest level of paranoia requires six drives but four is doable. If you want to you can [...]

Hard Drive replacement procedure
You wouldn’t be able to restore all of the software by a copy and paste. A third party backup and restore application like <a href=”http://www.acronis.com/promo/ATIH/true-image-2009-imaging.html?source=us_google&ad=disk+ghosting&c=2673628667&k=disk%20ghost&gclid=CNG-3NbQ-JoCFRMUagod4l9bdQ”>Acronis True Image</a> will help you do this. ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Most hard drive replacement may come with a 3rd party utility to “clone” your original drive to an external destination and then [...]

This sounds like it should work. Before dropping in the drives that you have wipped, do a full backup. Just to be safe. Hard drives that are RAIDed should be picked up by a new controller, provided that it’s the same type and model, and that the drives are connected in the exact same order [...]
