Why just 3 backups? Many small businesses keep at least 5 backups available to lessen the chances of having a bad backup that is not able to do a full restore of their data. The more backups you have available the better. What happens if a file is discovered to be missing because someone accidentally [...]
what backup are you doing? image or data or?? if you do for data, and you cannot wait so long, then do real time replication to another hdd then only move to tape later..it also depends a lot on read write speed so many factors need to be considered

On my McData switches MIB is FA Mib 3.1. I don’t see any config options for SNMP other than target and port. You shoulsd be able to go in and pull all 3 log sets: Link incident, open-trunking reroute, and event logs. You can also gather all logs at once. ——— You probably aren’t overloading [...]
It’s hard to give you a solid answer without knowing where in the world you’re located. There are NUMEROUS data centers that offer off-site storage / cloud services / DR off-loading at reasonable or competitive pricing. Whereabouts do you work/live? may give us a better way to assist you in narrowing your choices down… ——– [...]
Based on your config, and the comments about your storage system you probably only need one or two physical files per file group. The smaller the files in each file group the quicker it would be to do a partial database restore allowing you to keep the system online and have less data missing (or [...]
I think the process u have taken is okay ! If possible consider Network Accessible Drives (NAS). They are cheap and reliable. Then u may use ROBOCOPY (a small tool, absolutely free) from Microsoft in conjunction with Microsoft Scheduler to backup files to the NAS drives. I hope u have to use ntbackup…. Another way [...]
In Windows Server Platforms, setting Group Policy Objects / Folder Redirections will allow you to limit / force users to save data in a specified location..

Sounds like exchange 2003, If so check the following, Make sure that the Database name and server name is exactly the same as it was, Go on the the DB properties before mounting and check the box that the DB can be overwritten by a restore, otherwise it wont mount at all, If the name [...]
The short answer is: if the target machine have the HDD interface (SCSI, PATA or SATA), yes. Once you say that the RAID where the disk was a member has failed, you should investigate the reason for that. Re conducting this disk in another machine without knowing if it is in “good shape” will probably [...]
You can setup a majority node set without having a shared quorum. However, you will need at least 3 nodes to be useful since it require (n/2)+1 voting nodes to attain a quorum. Follow the directions here if you decide to proceed: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc783784(WS.10).aspx That said, as others have noted, you can create shared storage on [...]
We normally buy the DL and BL range and always get the drivers with which is HP Smartstart, so yes im sure you shouldve got it with, But no worries you will be able to get all the info you need including drivers from the hp website, here is a link to the G6 not [...]
If you have used the Windows Backup application before in other Windows Server versions, you know that it is called NTBACKUP and you can run it, using that command, from the command line. If you attempt the same command in Windows Server 2008, you will find that you get an error. This is because the [...]
To restore everything precisely the way it was at some particular point, create an image of the drive on CDs, using Norton Ghost or other imaging utilities. U can also use NTBackup for backing up the everything!
Hi Melanie, It would be helpful to know a little more about the data being backed up, Exchange, SQL, File Servers, any specific software/application, backup window(s) and hardware used. Even so, being based on Windows, I would say that System Center Data Protection Manager from Microsoft would be a assertive choice. You will probably want [...]
+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ DISCUSSION: What sql server are you using, and what type of backup did you make +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ I am using SQL Server 2008r2 x64 on WINDOWS 2008r2 x64. I made a full backup of all files. However the drive the data is located on is in tact. When using oracle I just need to create [...]
Our software was developed over the last 15 years. Durring that time there has been a constant turnover in staff and seldom was there anyone with much prior experience. As a result, we have a lot of spaghetti code and it is overflowing with hard coding. Our goal this year is to rewrite our main [...]
The fiber switches are not designed for data storage. —————————– Agreed – Switches are transports, not storage devices…
