I am looking for feedback on Veritas Bare Metal Restore as a Disaster Recovery upgrade to my current Veritas NetBackup tape library. I understand that the BMR Server does not run on Windows. I could run this on an RS/6000 (AIX) but am concerned about the setup time in a DR situation.
A SearchStorage.com reader asks: I have a HP MSA1000 SAN with 4 NetWare servers attached and a HP MSL5026S2 Tape library (SDLT). I get really good speeds from the server running ArcServe, but whenever I try to use this server to backup the other attached NetWare servers, it runs as bad, if not worse than [...]
This is just for educational purposes. I want to build some JSP pages for a university project, and I’m looking for a J2EE IDE (better if free), but I’m, not sure which is best or easiest to use. I have taken a look to Net Beans 3.6 and I like it, but it’s too heavy [...]

What are five best rules of thumb when reviewing output from system monitors for preventing future problems. The system monitors could be any SMF/RMF MICS TSO/MON MXG OMEGAMON system monitor type report for reporting on the mainframe. Example might be 1. sustained CPU utilization over 85% 2. Long I/O ques 3. large variation in on-line [...]
Could you kindly advise a competitive product against EMC VisualSRM Suite. I need to source for an alternative solution.
We are moving to a new i5/iSeries machine. We will be doing a full backup, then a restore, then a SAVCHGOBJ. However, in the past, when we’ve done a restore of a source file, the existing members get renamed (SRCMBR00001) and the members from the restore get put in correctly. Does anybody know the exact [...]
Hi, We’re converting some old master files in to new format files. These master files have around 58 million records each. We wrote COBOL programs to convert the format and write to the new files. In order to speed up the process we are splitting the each master file into 20 parts(i.e., 20 files and [...]
My company is currently merging and we are in need of several NetBackup gurus, as the organizational merger will result in an incrase of 2 Petabytes/month (500 Terabytes/month in Jan. ’04, 1 Petabyte/month as of Apr. ’04). This is a state-of-the art environment supporting 3,000 servers, soon to be upwards of 30,000. We are looking [...]
I am currently working at a small company that has been experiencing a lot of growth. Over 90% of our data lies in the scanned images stored on our server. The structured layout of these images are held in a MS SQL 2000 db and served out using vendor software. For our local site I [...]
On my windows 2 cpu server with 20 disks, disk queue lengths exceed 40. Windows perfmon and IOmeter benchmarks give me 0.9K IOPs for write and 2K for reads, 8K OLTP block size. #disks : 20 : 36 GB, 15K rpm, U320 scsi with two dual channel controllers with 256 MB cache each. I am [...]

We have a very large production database and doing a copy back to QAS is becoming untenable. We looked at a tool called Infoshuttle to extract a subset from PRD to create a QAS, but it was not designed to do a “mini-copy” with full integrity as we wanted. Anyone heard of any other tools [...]

Hi every one! Second, how can i use Enterprise manager to create reports about my tables in the Oracle database? Thanx.
Looking for White Papers, Best Practices, Your Practice…on UserIDs What should a Network UserID look like for strong security? I don’t believe it should contain any part of the user’s legal name. Agree? So what do you use to create a UserID? Should a user be able to change their UserID? Thanks for your input.
