New way of handling RAID 5?
This depends on your disk subsystem. Our Oracle database resides on a SAN attached IBM shark and we have enough write cache in front that we do not have a write penalty for using raid-5.

Data Visibility in RBAC and Rule-based systems issues
There exists a lot of doctrine, but no easy answers. Access can be regulated by role, task and sometimes security level (secret, top secret or some commercial equivalent, but the more granular these become, the tougher it gets to administer them and to adapt to new conditions (reorgs, changes in role, task, etc.). What you [...]

Maybe I am stating the too obvious, but Veritas has agents for specific applications such as MS SQL Server. I would purchase and install the VERITAS Backup Exec Agent for Microsoft SQL Server.

Access to security log in Windows 2000
I would just go to the C:WINNTsystem32config directory and apply security on the files. Just select all the files, especially the .EVT files and right click and go to properties. In the properties you can set access to whomever you want to access the files and what permissions they will have. Dont get rid of [...]

Setting up an extended fabric over DWDM
Let?s start with a couple of questions to try a fill in the blank and an important one is how far apart the Nortel DWDM cards/devices are? Knowing the distance involved is important to have a handle on how many buffers will be needed on each end to support your ISL. For example at 2Gb/sec [...]

DOS attack, DNS question
Howdy! SonicWall is actually pretty good. Not like Firewall-1, but still pretty good. I own several, but have also worked on tons of other stuff. The SonicWall has a log. Have you looked at it? If you had trouble reaching the firewall inside, I’d suspect virus or worm activity before I’d suspect a DOS (Denial [...]

Restricted access to win XP professional
You’d be best off if your Win2K server is upgraded to a domain controller using ‘dcpromo’ at the command line. Then you would add all of your XP machines to the domain you have created and restrict access on ALL of the machines according to a single set of users which exist within active directory… [...]

how DNS works
OK – another deep hole – just love these. Simplest answer is that there is a server (arbitrarily chosen by the appropriate admins) which is THE authority for example.com, and its associated address range 168.192.in-addr.arpa (which covers all of 192.168.x.y). note the reversing of the byte ordering for the address range. Other servers can get [...]
