Backing up IN the cloud (not to).

Our company is exploring cloud computing and is looking for a strategy for backing up the server instances running in the cloud.

We are considering a Netbackup domain, but not sure if it will function in a private cloud environment. Has anyone tried this? Has anyone used any of the products touted to backup TO the cloud for servers and apps already/actually IN the cloud?

Could somebody please suggest a suitable storage system for our Enterprise Vault project. The total storage we are looking is around 100TB. We are using Symantec’s Netbackup as the Backup software. Fibre channel will be the preferred choce.

Hi Guys,

Here’s our situation; our file and application server 2003 is running out of disk space on the C: drive (10 Gig Volume)!

We are using Netbackup software.

Has anybody had to rebuild (Restore) a App/File server with Netbackup and if so what are some of the pitfalls to look out for. Will be attempting this task soon so any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

Veritas Netbackup Console/ X win issue ??

Hi guys,

Can someone help me as I have a starnge issue going on. Bascially I was working fine uptill yesterday in veritas administration console gui, but my pc crashed whislt this was open. So when i went back to restart my pc and attempted to open the netbackup admin console gui, it opens, but it wont let me enter my useerid aor password, its as if the keybord is not allowed to type anythingm oinly enter key works. I am using cynwin x for xwindows, can some one shed some light on the problem please ??

Formatting media on NetBackup

A SearchStorage user recently asked:

I am using NetBbackup 5.0., and I want to know how to format media. There is a command bpexpdate to expire media. Does that remove the contents of the media, too?

Further, if I backup some media, remove that piece from the backup manager and then add the same piece, would NetBbackup identify it as a fresh piece or a piece with previous backup on it?

Also, how can I tell how much portion of the media is filled up?
