Is there a industry best practice that can guide when one needs to make a decision on buying a DEDICATED server platform for a backup server vs hosting the backup server on a shared server platform? Running one’s backup server on the same server as , say, your print or DHCP server.

Storage sales are up in the first quarter of 2010. Who do you think the key players in storage in the remaining quarters are going to be? What are you and your company allocating to storage solutions in 2010?
I am asking about a video surveillance storage solution as we have to store 100 terabytes/day of live video stream that is coming from 900 PTZ cameras. We also have to keep the recordings in storage for 90 days before archiving.
We have a data center I was thinking of acquiring a SAN unit from, then using DFS to copy server files to the SAN and then back that information to a remote storage site. How do I accomplish this with laptops? Do I use folder redirection, that takes too much time when logging in?

We have been having massive problems with a storage array (Dell md3000i). The prescribed resolution is to vacate, wipe-out and re-build the array, then re-populate. I am wondering [...]

I work at home, and I often have files upwards of 4GB. Would a normal NAS FAT32 be adequate or do I need a NTFS because of file size? How is data recovery with NTFS if something happens to the NAS? Would I need to buy a GLAN? Any advice, including brands, is welcome.

For a while now, everyone has been talking about how Tapedrive has been finally nixed by digital storage like NAS and SAN, but tape is still being used by enterprises, whether due to compliance or cost issues. Are you using tape as your storage/backup solution or a mixture of different media? Do you plan on [...]
