Vendors are speaking more and more to the benefits of SSD’s at different levels of the organization — not just for user machines, but also at the server level and for storage arrays. What’s your take? Do you see solid state drives as an eventual standard for the enterprise environment? If no, why?

Uploading Flash Translation Layer(FTL) to SSD

Is there any development KIT for me to upload or improve FTL resident
in SSD ?
For example, I’d like to devise a wear-leveling algorithm and equip it
to a real SSD, not to a simulator.

Is a Dell D620 compatible with an SSD?

One of our users is interested in upgrading their laptop drive to a SSD. He currently has the following laptop:

Dell D620 (vanilla flavour)

He would like to upgrade his drive to the following SSD:

Intel X25-M 80GB SSD purchase

Does anyone know if this is compatible? I called Dell Support, but they didn’t seem entirely sure if it could be done or not. They said it would work fine with a D630, but didn’t have any info on the D620 (which is strange).
