I have a SQL Server 2005 standard edition installed with a default instance. I need to install an additional named instance. However I could not find the standard edition installer CD; and my colleague managed to dig out a copy of the Express edition installer. Can i use the Express edition installer to install a named instance on the standard edition? Will i get any error during the installation. I do not want to affect the current default instance.

Hi,

We do a simple select 1 million record over a client server setup with SQL server 2008 and it take 10 times more time to get the results that doing the same request with Microsoft access db.

Exactly the same setup for the network. Any special setup in SQL server we are missing.

I receive the following error when installing SQL Server. I have installed .net 4.0 full x64 bit as some sites suggest but I can’t get past the failure. Books Online tells me … make sure you have administrator permissions on the computer where SQL Server will be installed.
Based on the principle of using the lowest possible user rights is it possible to safely install SQL Server 2005 using an account or group that has the required level of privileges but no more.
I have read Books Online for example to … always run SQL Server services by using the lowest possible user rights. I am trying to figure is it reasonable to take the same approach at installation time

SQL Server 2008: Difficulty setting mixed mode authentication password

I am attempting to install SQL Server 2008 (64-bit) on Windows Server 2003 SP2 (64-bit).

During the installation, I get stuck at the step where it asks for a mixed mode authentication password.

Following the requirements, I have tried a strong password but I am still getting the error message, “The specified SA password does not meet strong password requirement.”

Why does this error continue to occur?

When I attempt to install SQL Server 2000 using Windows XP Service Pack 2 for IT Professionals and Developers, I encounter the following error:

“Microsoft SQL Server 2000 Enterprise Edition server component is not supported on this operating system. Only client components will be available for installation”

How can I fix this problem?
