We usually log on to the server using a local account without logging into the domain.

However, it seems to not recognize the domain user accounts and we end up using local just to get SQL to install. Then we go back and change it back to the domain accounts. We log on using a domain account when we change it.

We discovered that if we log in to the server using a domain account (and hence logging into the domain) it doesn’t have this issue.

Is there a reference from microsoft that says when you do installations on SQL 2005/08 that you have to login using a domain account where the service accts live? Does it have to use a domain log-in to see the domain service accounts?
