Shortening the generation time for a SQL Server 2000 report

I have 516 different functions in SQL Server 2000 that are used for different calculations. These functions will operate on more than a thousand Microsoft Excel files. Each Excel file has 960 rows, and generating the report took over four hours. Is there a way to shorten this?
