I have an application that uses SQL Express 2005. I will be upgrading the application and am planning for rollback should it be required. I have nightly database backups which also go to tape but I am wanting the entire hard drives of the server backed up to tape prior to the upgrade. As a rule, we do not backup SQL folders to tape but just the database backups. This database is not in use at night. Because the SQL Express is customized and integrated with the application, I would feel better to also backup the SQL directories to tape. Will this cause any poroblems? We do not have the network backup agent for SQL. We use Backup Exec (Veritas) for our network backups.

I execute some simple queries on my own system’s sql server express 2005, the executions time is under 1 second but when I execut the same queries on our server’s sql server express 2005, the queries execution time is about 3 seconds or more and I don’t know why. both of the systems have the same OS (win 2003 server), but our server have 1Gig ram and my system have 2 Gig.
This difference in RAM can be the major reason for query response time?
Please help me in this case if you know the reason.
Best regards
If stock1 has a price on lets say 1-Jan-2010 but stock 2 doesnot have a price on that date, the record should not come, only dates where both stock have a price should be displayed.

We have a small but critical application that is accessed by about 30 – 40 users on our network. We want to set up a SQL environment to run the database, but the application accessing the data is locally installed on each users machine. Users will access the db over our network using an ODBC connection. The db is currently just over 700Mb in Access. The application has excellent reporting tools, so we don’t need to run SQL reports directly against the db. We do want to be able to restore the db with the capability to include the transactions conducted since the last backup of the db occurred.

We are trying to determine whether we can use SQL Express, or whether SQL Workgroup or Standard is required. Can anyone offer some advice?
