I was searching for a long time for a simple tool which can tell us the controller throughput of any SAN environment. Its necessary for every Storage engineer to have this utility to cross verify the subsystem we buy. Ofcourse the vendor will have the tool or LAB benchmark for the same. But those will work on the connected environments – I mean the san subsystem connected with multiple nodes with File system etc. Instead of that we should have a tool which helps us to find out the exact back end performance of the controller. Even its single or dual on SAN path. Does anyone have any idea on the same. Incase of more clarification let me know. We can discuss further and we can create something new for the storage industry. What say?

Iam planning to setup a storage which needs to be located in 5 geographical locations. The data which i write on the first location should get sysnc with rest 4 locations in no time. I dont want to invest more in procure higher bandwidth solutions. Is there any other way to sync the data by caching mechanism or related to same technique. The ens result would not only the data sync I require the data to get video streamed or rendered using same applications on all location. I wont specifically select the data from locations. I just select stream or render what ever mount points I have. Cause I dont want to show the location to the end user. He will not come to know which location data he is accessing. But end of the day I require minimum 4GBps of throughput on each storage location. Will it be possible by just configuring same kind of storage hardware on all locations with same LUN size & file systems export. User will have access either through NFS or FTP. Does anyone have idea on this?

Using Windows 2000 as workstations and Windows XP Pro as a “server”. I need to find a decent method to complete one of the following:

Option 1:
Allow users of the shared computer the ability to save to a specific folder and have the folder auto-delete after a certain amount of time. We currently use smart cards and when a user pulls out the smart card or their 45min time period is up, I would like to have the contents of the specific folder to be deleted.

Option 2:
I have heard about a linux based server that will allow sers to login to it via the web and save files, info, favorites, etc. Anyone use anything like this? I would need it to function with other Win 2000 and XP machines.

Option 3?

Overall goal: To have a secure place for users to store data files that will run on windows XP or linux.
