What’s the typical life span of a Windows Server?
How long would you suggest maintaining a single installation before you decide it’s time to format/reinstall/update? My Windows Server 2003 Enterprise is at 4 years.

Another example of “shot gunning”
Adding to the issue of “shot gunning, in that same 3011 maintenance actions on 10,000 servers over one year there were 54 instances where the engineer replaced 2 memory DIMMs, is he guessing or does he know both are bad? Is that even likely? Jim4522

Which of the following can a user reasonably do for himself
There are clearly maintenance functions that require the skill of a vendor maintenance engineer to perform on servers but are the following within a users capability to carry out? Replacing a failed disk drive? Replacing the power supply? Replacing the Fan? Replacing Memory Dimm? Replace CPU? Jim4522
