You may want to start off with the basic’s, like Security+. A lot of organizations, especially the government look for this certification of a resume. From there, Try CASP, another CompTIA exam. Now, depending on how far into security you want to go, here is a site you may consider looking into: http://www.giac.org/certification/security-essentials-gsec Read this [...]
There are lot of moving parts here, and variables that you aren’t mentioning. It depends on what you need. I’m sure Wayport (AT&T Wi-Fi), Cisco, and many others have a solution for you. If you can share some more about your needs we can probably drill down and help further.
If it’s web mail, you’ll know you’re using an encrypted connection if you see “https://” in the address field. The other email protocols SMTP, POP3, and IMAP can use encrypted connections over ports 465, 995, and 993 respectively. If you see any mention of these ports in your email configuration then you’re connections may very [...]
It’s relatively simple: Know what you’ve got Understand how it’s at risk Do something about it It’s numbers 2 and 3 that so many people have trouble with. The reality is you cannot secure what you don’t acknowledge. You most certainly cannot secure the big areas when the CIO is actually getting in the way. [...]
Generally speaking, no society is not prepared…nor are most IT shops based on what I see in my work. I think the overarching issue is the fact that many (most?) people don’t truly understand computer security and what’s at stake…hence the continued security gaffes we see. The Mandiant APT1 report was fascinating…some eye-opening things for [...]
Good question Chris. I’ve found that the more hoops you make your users jump through, the greater the chance they’ll find a workaround. I haven’t seen any clients take the sandboxed email client approach but it’s worthy of consideration. I’d just recommend making sure you think things through first and get management on board before [...]
Upgrading the database software to something current would be a nice start. Most healthcare software running on SQL Server is still running SQL 2000 because the vendor doesn’t want to go through FDA approval for the new version. Also most healthcare companies don’t have IT people in charge of IT. They have doctors making [...]
Yes you just need to do a full uninstall from the one you want it off. When you do that it will remove the license from the computer and you can apply it to the new computer.
Basically when you purchase a domain name (website’s name) with no plans of doing anything with it, with the hope that someone will pay you a lot of money to purchase it from you.
Which tool have you tried?
You contact the email provider
Thanks for your info. The calls are coming from contacts on my list, but the people are not who they claim to be, and they REDIRECT to themselves the calls that I try to make to my contacts. Can they do this by breaking into our home network? Or do they need to have some [...]

There is a file called AUTORUN.INF which can appear on removable devices and will be automatically run based on your computer settings. You should turn off this functionality. This did not necessarily take data from your computer but it is disconcerting.
This directive, like most others coming out of Washington these days, will prove to be yet another compliance burden that businesses will face. Interestingly, looking through Obama’s Cybersecurity Near Term Actions, most of these things have already been put in place in some form: FISMA, InfraGard, the myriad of federal and state privacy/security regulations, the [...]
Hi Ravula, I would recommend that you take a look at the GoAnywhere solution that Charlie mentioned. GoAnywhere Services is an SFTP server that can run on any version of Windows, all flavors of Linux/Unix and also installs and runs perfectly on an IBM i system. When a user uploads a file via SFTP, it [...]

The first thing you need to think about is why someone would just ring / email / send pigeon to let you know that someone has hacked your machine / Phone / Nintendo DS. There is no gain for them to do this. It is likely that they are trying to sell you somethng that [...]
Hi, and welcome to ITKE. I will try to help, but without seeing the actual config, this is a bit of an impossible question to answer with any real accuracy. I don’t think it would be a good idea to post the configs here either. Generally, you need to take the parts of the config, [...]
I’d say, based on what I see in my security assessment work, that malware is indeed a problem – more than many believe. Traditional anti-virus is not enough for many enterprises. Mobile too. It’s mostly out of control. Not good for security. The one thing that many still overlook is web vulnerabilities that have gone [...]
