I have a M/B with an integrated nVidia SATA II RAID controller. The M/B died the other day leaving me in a pickle. In an act of desparation, I took the four SATA II drives out of the server and put them into another server with a similar nVidia SATA II RAID controller. To my surprise, it worked....
Hi there. We have a windows 2003 server here in the office that we just put 4 new 34.6gb HDs in for a total of 6. The drives are running RAID 5. When we first put them in the HP system management software the admin uses to track the RAID arrays and what not had the new ones listed as in Logical...

When I try to install XP on the server, it seems like windows can't find any hard drive, so as soon as you press enter to setup, you don't see any disk to format whatsoever? Does anybody ever experienced this kind of problem, if so can you please give me a solution to this problem cause it really...
I have to install windows 2003 in a server machine. It contains SCSI hard disks and the Hard Disk is connected to the motherboard with RAID controller Card. When I try to install windows 2003, the OS is not recognize the Hard Disks. So I cant Install the Operating System to the server machine.
I am specifying a new server and have been told that a 3 drive RAID 5 array is not a good idea as I will not hacve a bootable drive in the event of a array controller failure. A better idea is O/S on a RAID1 mirror with apps too, and data on RAID 5 array of 3 drives. Any comments please.
I was just reading about parity on searchstorage.techtarget.com and have a question about 3 bit parity vs. 1 bit parity. I understand the setting to 0 for an even # of bits and setting to 1 for an odd #. Doesn't seem very reliable because you could lose 2 bits in data transmission. Just...
Does anyone know some way of testing/ tuning the best performance out of a DAS RAID. ie. Different Stripes and formatted clusters for the different types of raid.
We had an external raid fail that had plenty of data. We have since unmounted the raid. However, the data dictionary views are still seeing this drive and are therefore giving an error when trying to query the views. How can we update the data dictionary?????

I need to install SQL Server 2005 (64-bit) on two new servers, but these servers have only four hard disks with 500GB each. From what I understand, all my operating systems, data and log files will reside on these four disks. I have two choices: to use RAID Level 1 or Level 1 +0. Which RAID level...

what is fault tolerance and raid 5 and raid 1 offer what type of fault tolerance
Please forgive my ignorance, I usually deal in code and applications, servers and loading OS's onto them is like talking Klingon to me right now, but I'm learning. I was stupid enough to buy a Dell PowerEdge 800 server with 3 x 500Gb disks already installed (and configured) as a RAID 5. I could...
I have tape library that connects via fibre channel. When I set up the tape library, I've connected it to an open port on a QLogic fibre channel switch that had an XServer G5 and seven RAIDS. The tape library is running into speed and connection issues when the RAIDs are being hit with a lot ...
I have a Dell xps 420 that came with Vista 32 bit. I have switched over to Vista 64 bit (and as far as I can tell updated all my drivers). I want to run raid 0. I would like to use the Migrating feture and avoid having to do a fresh re-install. The issue I am having is every time I enable raid mode...
