  • Programming Raid Controller

I know there is software raid and hardware raid. Do you program them the same way? As well do the controller's have to match drives such as SATA or SCSI? Please forgive this basic question I am new at this stuff.

  • Can I use two ultra320 and one ultra3 on same disk array for RAID 5?

I am planning to use raid 5 and my disk array consist of two ultra320 and one ultra3. Since the transfer rate of ultra3 is slower is it going to affect the whole transfer rate and wasteful to use two ultra320?  Also should I use a ultra320 or ultra3 raid controller?

How do I force a Sun x4200 with a LSI SAS1064 RAID controller to resync? mpt-status returns OUT_OF_SYNC for one of the drives. A power cycle didn't alleviate the problem. Does this mean the disk has failed?

  • Rebuild my RAID controller?

If my RAID controller is down and being replaced, would it still be able to recognize the RAID array? Or do I have no alternative but to rebuild everything from scratch?
