How to predict the number of defects releases to QA? Is any estimation technique available?

To know how we are performing testing on the current build, we can match the current number of found defects with the predicted data and then take decisions of – Are we in the right direction? Are we missing anything, why there is a difference? etc

Is there any estimation techniques available to do this? Any experiences on this please share.

Switching from Support to QA

I have just joined our company’s development team for QA on our software. I have been promoted from our Support desk after 24 months. I have been in this position for two months and found that it is difficult for me to get rid of the Support cap and put on the QA Cap. Do you have any advice or website reading material suggestions? Your assistance is highly appreciated.
