We have decided to go for Oracle E-Business Suite ERP for Financials, HR and other business processes and Siebel for CRM along with Oracle SOA suite and Oracle BI suite. I need advice how to select the operating system platform for various application and Oracle database servers.

We are thinking of either using the Intel platform with Windows or Oracle Linux OS or using the Sun Solaris platform. The Intel platform has cost advantage while Sun may have a better integration and performance with Oracle in the long run. I need advice from the cost, performance and scalability angels. Thank you.

Book: Linux Recipes for Oracle DBAs

Overview: “Linux Recipes for Oracle DBAs is an example-based book on managing Oracle Database in a Linux environment. Covering commonly used distributions such as Red Hat Enterprise Linux and Oracle Enterprise Linux, the book is written for database administrators who need to get work done and lack the luxury of curling up fireside with a stack of Linux documentation. The book is task-oriented: Look up the task to perform. See the solution. Read up on the details. Get the job done.”

Has anyone built a oracle 11g or 10g RAC on HP Blade C3000. A typical setup could be 4 X Bl460c blade servers using 4 X SB40c storage blade ( giving 24 X 146 GB SAS drives ). Both the blade servers and storage will fit in the same blade enclosure. OS could be oracle enterprise Linux The advantages would be.

- shared stored on the blade enclosure meaning no need for SAN or NAS.
- shared stored on the blade enclosure meaning no need for HBAs
- no need for private LAN as servers will internally communicate via backplane.

The question is has anyone build this and if so what was the experience?
