how to find an HTTP POST request in the Wireshark(etheral). I can see lot of HTTP GET request in the Wireshark capture, but no HTTP POST is there.
Please help me how to find a HTTP POST in the Wireshark.

Can we block wireshark or ethereal from being able to run on our Windows 2003 Active Directory network? We want to block sniffers from catching sip/VoIP traffic.

What’s the best way to root out a promiscious sniffer like WireShark? Are there any specific packet types that it spits out I can search for? I’d love suggestions for specific anti-sniffing tools to help better lock down our network.

media converter problem

Hi,
In setup 1, data can be put through the media converter. I verified by using wireshark installed on a lappie connected to the copper end.
but when i connect a 2nd media converter (setup 1b), i cant see the data anymore. I verified by using a line analyzer connected to the fiber end of the 2nd mc.
Why is this so?

data source -fiber-> media converter -copper->
Setup 1b:
data source -fiber-> media converter -copper-> media converter -fiber-> line analyzer

How to identify the users in the network

I am working on my Masters Project in which I am supposed to design a Network Monitoring tool which will identify the users in the network based on their network behavior.

I have a network setup with 4 systems connected to a Switch –> Router –> Internet. I connected another system to the same switch which will capture all the packets across the switch in promiscuous mode. Using Wireshark I captured the packets of all the 4 users in the network with 4 different IPs.

What are all the possible ways in which I can identify which user is using which system ??

Does anyone have experience with shareware/freeware tools similar to wireshark. I am looking at a tool that is simple to use by application teams as they are doing development (mostly .NET) that can highlight WAN performance issues early on.

It should be simple to understand and interpret by this group. Please let me know if anyone has anything they can recommend.

Again this is a Microsoft specific environment so I need something that could work on Windows.
