The server has two ethernet ports but the second router is in another building and I don’t want to have to run a second line to it. Any suggestions?

Hi all,

I am having some trouble and I can’t get forward…
I have two different domains running, both are in the same network. (Scenario is that DC1 is the primary domain of an existing company and DC2 is a new domain for a new company)
The DC1 of Domain1 has the ip 10.128.101.3 and the DC2 of Domain2 has the ip 10.128.102.3
Right now both have the subnet 255.0.0.0

Everything is working fine and I they are able to communicate (DNS) also working.
What I need is to have two DHCP servers. One on DC1 and one on DC2.
DC1 DHCP is giving IPs for company one’s clients – 10.128.101.20-10.128.101.150
DC2 should have two scopes – the first is for 10.128.101.150-254 and should be considered as a backup if DC1 is gone.
The second scope on DC2 should give ip’s to the clients of domain two – 10.128.102.20-10.128.102.254

DHCP won’t let me set the two scopes on DC2 as the same subnet – 255.0.0.0 and I don’t see any possibility to do what I want without routing.
So I need to know what subnet to set and how can I configure WIN SRV 2003 as a router on one of the systems so that they will be able to communicate.

I hope you understand me…

Thanks for the help.

we are running four domain controllers all are windows server 2008 enterprise. we have a considerably big network with almost 20 vlans (eg 192.168.10.0,192.168.11.0,…192.168.49.0)we have made four different sites and have added subnets and servers to the sites according to their nearest availability. but the problem we are facing is that when our clients are trying to get communication with the domain controller, the reply is not coming from the server which is in the same site. all the time it is querying for differnt domain controllers which are in another site. as our servers are located at long distances connected through leased lines it is important for us to get all the clients in one location(site) must be communicating with the server in the same location if the server is available online. how can we achive this????? please help thanks
