I was
wondering if someone could help me with the specifics of how to set up a VLAN
for the network using Schoolguardian. I do not have formal network training and
so I feel very inadequate to tackle this project, but it just needs to be done
and so any help would be very appreciated…Current Network:

1. I currently have a 10.0.0.0 network 255.0.0.0 with a proxy for filtering at
10.0.0.1:xxx where 10.0.0.1 is the Gateway. 2. I also use the DHCP server which
points to my primary DNS at 10.0.0.2 and Secondary at 10.0.0.4.

3. I use the DHCP server to hand out static IPs created per MAC addresses of
each client. And this, in turn, is used by Guardian Authentication to Identify
by IP and filter by groups. So now I wish to set up a VLAN that will have use of
all these assets including – DHCP server/ group filtering, internet access, and
proxy. But not sure of all the hoops I need to jump through to get there. Here
is what I’m thinking: Set up VLAN; Set up New DHCP Subnet for VLAN ; …Question
here – How will I point to access DNS? Set up Routing Rule .Set up Zone bridging….
Question – do I need both Routing rule and Zone bridging? I’m I thinking
correctly? How do I proxy and DNS? What am I missing?

Again, any help would be wonderful.

I have a server with a static IP assigned by my ISP. I want to add another computer so I installed a netgear router and configured it with the static IP address etc. that the ISP gave me. When I did that the original server would not connect to the internet, but the new PC did. I then changed the original computer’s configuration to obtain address automatically from TCP/IP properties in windows and both computers were able to access the internet. The problem is that the original computer cannot now be accessed externally. We use the original server for security cameras which we monitor remotely. Whats the fix? Thank you all for your help!

Dear All,

first i thank you all for your valuable website.

i personally got many benefits from your q/a posted.

one very important issue for me is mentioned on your website but it is still not working with me, and i do highly appreciate any one can help.

i want to be able to access my trendnet ip camera from the internet without having a static IP assigned from my ISP Provider.

i have a DSL Connection at home, connected to a router (trendnet) and a wirless trend net camera is connected to the router.

the router ip is 192.168.0.1, the camera IP is 192.168.0.30.

A) on the camera web access app i configured on the camera that the gateway is 192.168.0.1, moreover i configured the DDNS to be:

domain name: ngkn.dyndns.org

user: XX

password: YY

is that right? any missing config?

B) on the router web app i configure a virtual server:

1. I enabled Virtual server

2. Name: i choose from a drop down list HTTP

3. IP Address: */here is my probelm*/

What IP should i Enter?

* 0.0.0.0

* or shall i enter the IP Automaticaly Assigned to the router from the DSL Modem on the WAN port

* or shoud i enter the IP that i use to access the router 192.168.0.1

4. Protocol: both

5. Private port: 80

6. Public Port: 80

save

is that right? any missing config?

C) The last step is that i went to the website DynDNS.org, and i registed an account for free. i could enter a host service:

i entered the followig info:

1. Hostname: ngkn.dyndns.org

2. Wildcard Status: Disabled

3. Service Type: Host with IP address

4. IP Address: ALso here i would like to know which IP Shall i enter

* shall i use the WAN ip Assigned automaticaly to my router

* i dont if it the same ip i got when i enter to the website “what is my IP”

5. What do you want to use this host for?

Select services and devices you would like to use with this hostname.

i selected DVR, Webcam, and CCTV

so this is my all config.

whta should i configure to make it work.

the most important issue is that i don’t have a static ip assigned to me from the ISP provider.

and most of all once evrything configured through which IP shall i access the ip camera?

Is it throught the ISP public IP Address? if so, what will differentiate between hundred of people having the same setup connecting through the same ISP provider? they will all use then the same group of public ISP IP’s, they will use port 80, hwta will ban the conflit of config setup between my IP Camera and another user IP Camera while both connected to the internet through the same ISP?

Thank you all for your time, and i HIGHLY appreciate if someone can help.
