There really is no backup domain controller in AD. All DCs should have global catalog role in order to perform authentication tasks. All DCs can handle all roles. Worst case scenario you would have to use adsiedit or ntdsutil to seize roles that were assigned to the failed server and move them to the other [...]

Keep in mind we are talking about two different access-lists. The first one is the inbound access-list on the outside interface. This is the one that the sysopt permit-ipsec command allows IPSec traffic to bypass. If you do not do this then you will need to ensure that any IPSec initiator on the outside is [...]
We started with 6 2003 server domain controllers and have slowly been migrating to 2008 R2. Currently changed out 4 of the 2003 to 2008 R2. We have been runing this way for over a year without any problems. We now have the PDC on the Server 2008 R2. We plan to replace the last [...]
sounds to me like you will need to create NAT rules in your router/firewall and not use DHCP to do this. What you need to do is set up NAT using your WAN interface.
If you are able to login remotely then you might try WinAudit “PC audit and inventory of software, licenses, security configuration, hardware, network settings…” : http://winaudit.zymichost.com/winaudit.zip Not installation required if its on a VLAN cause you actually need to run it on the desktop You might have to sift through the vast amount of data, [...]

You can upgrade member servers first without any issues. However when you are preparing to upgrade AD itself you will need to perform the following pre-upgrade steps in this order first before actually adding or upgrading a domain controller: 1 – AD must be running in Windows 2000 or 2003 native mode and not in [...]
-Check the Wireless settings configuration to be still active. -if it works just by resseting and still fails then I would suggest to update firmware (although the process will loose your old settings and will need to reconfigure again.) update firmware: http://www.dlink.co.uk/cs/Satellite?c=TechSupport_C&childpagename=DLinkEurope-GB%2FDLTechProduct&cid=1197319181026&p=1197318962293&packedargs=locale%3D1195806691854&pagename=DLinkEurope-GB%2FDLWrapper your last option could possible be replacement. Hope this helps..
Am I mistaken that all other P.C are working fine connecting and that 1 particular P.C is having Problem connecting????So I would then say that the problem may be within that particular P.C. if im correct…. -Check for any recent changes of any I.P address on that P.C(if exist/required).. -Could also try and uninstall Antivirus [...]
I believe you would give their user accounts (or groups) write/modify access and not read/list access.
A little more information: We’re looking to do a roundup of recommended reading for networking professionals. If you have books or other resources you’ve found helpful, either as a general “cookbook,” getting up to speed on a particular topic, or even prepping for a certification exam, it would be great if you could share the [...]

Sounds like these problem PC’s lose their IP address or LAN connectivity. Check to confirm that their IP address is as expected for this network. If the address is something like 169.254.x.x then the computers are not able to find the DHCP server for the network and have locally assigned addresses. Check the cabling and [...]

Due to the tight connections to the rest of your network, I personally would not put it in a DMZ. Ours resides on our internal network (behind the firewall and a router). The router port-forwards the needed POP/SMTP/IMAP ports from our external IP address to the internal network IP address of that server. Only those [...]
In Exchange 2007 when using an IPhone (might be true for other smart phones). Bring up Exchange manager, Recipient Configuration, Mailbox, select the user. On right side select ‘Manage mobile device’. One of the options is remote wipe. I tested it on my IPhone and it made into a brick almost immediately, I had to [...]
