Encrypting wireless router
Your security settings are found on the Linksys admin web page. Log on using the default user name and password provided in the documentation and navigate to the security settings to set up your encryption. You will want to change the default logon and password while you are there as well.

Does Active Directory on Windows server 2008 still require DNS?
AD absolutely still require DNS. It does not have to be on the same machine as a domain controller but it does need a DNS system to talk to.

DHCP conflicts after adding a wireless router
You have decisions to make. Is the corporate DHCP your only DHCP provider or will you have the wireless router provide DHCP? Will you use NAT on the wireless router? Does the wireless router have a firewall and will you manage it? My suggestion is to disable DHCP, NAT and the firewall on the wireless [...]

Open IT Forum: What are your views on social networking platforms in your network?
“Cloud based Offferings” We used to call these ‘computer bureaux’ We used to be extremely concerned about handing custody of our business critical data and trade secrets to a 3rd party. Nothing has changed. Handing over control of your property to someone else doesn’t let you abdicate responsibility for it. Computer systems, like nuclear power [...]

Cisco vs HP
The difference, I’ve found, between HP and Cisco switches operationally is nill. They both do the job. Yes, they’re different but similar enough to not give you too much of a headache. In any event, once you get used to them, they’re not a problem. The CLI is mostly semantic; “Display” vs “Show”, for example, [...]

Assigning more RAM to a built in video card
If you are struggling to run an application on the hardware you have re-provisioning system resources will only be a short term fix. Looking at the spec you put up I would strongly recommend jumping onto the sandy bridge bandwagon. Then you won’t have this issue.

VPN Connectivity Issue with SQL Database
Can you ping it? I’d check to see if you are actually getting a valid IP number. Allowing DHCP to do it for you sometimes doesn’t work real well and you need to assign a range of IP address manually. Also, under ‘incoming connections’, properties, internet protocol (tcp/ip) properties do you have the checkbox by [...]

Sharing System Resources
If you are talking about desktop computers then no there is no automated way of doing this. If your talking about servers there are a few ways to do this with certain technologies but if you only have a couple of servers it’s not worth it.

Setting up DFS to replicate three servers across WAN
It depends on what type of DFS structure you selected. If you selected a domain namespace then the servers will need to be on the same domain/forest or trusted. If you selected a single namespace then you can only use the single DFS server. Replication will work over a WAN as long as each domain [...]

I need to know what components I will need to establish a hugh LAN and WAN Network
You’ll be needing routers at each office that can handle being VPN endpoints so that the sties can VPN together. Network Switches to cable everything together. I’d recommend a couple of Windows servers running as Active Directory domain controllers for authentication. If you are going to be hosting email yourself you can look at Exchange [...]

Major differences in IPv4 and IPv6
You will need Dual stack routers that support both IPV6 and IPV4, or you can us Tunneling, or you can use NAT Protocol Translation known as NAT-PT. It will be a slow transition before from IPV4 to IPV6. You will have to pick the one that is best suited for your network.

Setup VLAN for two IP/Subnets
there is no way to do that on c2950. Possible solutions: 1 – adding a router to your network 2 – replacing your c2950 with a multilayer switch (c3550 is more yhan enough for that purposes and it’s also pretty cheap) 3 – using multihomed (multiple NICs) pc as a router (for example Windows Server).
