How can I switch into the networking field from a software development background?
Dear Sir or Madam; Sometimes short questions like yours imply a world of additional information; always they fail to include it. In the absence of more specifics about exactly what it is that you’re currenty doing, what you do and don’t like about it, and what’s impelling you to move away from that work I [...]

How do I control the library list that is in affect on the remote system using SQLPKG?
Hi, The library list comes from the user profile’s job description of the user you connect with. If you need to change it, you can use an SQL CALL to run a program to execute the CHGLIBL command. Or, you can use the DFTRDBCOL and SQLPATH keywords on the CRTSQLRPGI command if you’re using SQL [...]

Connecting to wireless network is not always the same. There are many variables, for example: Wireless type (802.11a, 802.11b, 802.11g, 802.11n) and encryption type (WEP, WPA, WPA-2, etc) are two of the biggest. This begs a few questions: Do you know, first, the SSID of the wireless network you are trying to connect to? Also, [...]

Is there a way to allow AS/400 access from Internet
If your broadband Modem/router does NAT (Network address translation) you can Translate Telnet port 23 SSL 992 from the external address of that router to the AS/400 Internal Address. I used this with a Company that did not have VPN into their network and it worked well. I would use the Mochasoft TN5250 Product it [...]

We have set up Network Load Balancing (NLB) on two Hub Transport/Client Access servers. (Windows Server 2008/Exchange Server 2007)
I ran across this same problem a couple years ago. The problem was that the NLB appliances did not support FBA (Forms Based Authentication). I was told that without FBA, OWA would not work because, in essence, the http datastream is being split mid-conversation between the two OWA servers. It’s definitely worth investigating your NLB [...]

Access from VPN to internal network with an ISA server
Launch the site-to-site VPN wizard by clicking on the Create VPN Site-to-Site Connection task in the right-hand pane. When the wizard launches, it asks for a site-to-site network name; this name should match the name of the user account that you created earlier. After entering the name, press the Next button. On the next screen. [...]

Maximum length of attenuation for twisted pair cables
100M or just over 320 feet. Twisted pair cabling standards for the most part are written for 100m total length including patch cords. The only exception is Category 6 supporting 10GBASE-T which is shorter and may vary by manufacturer and methods of mitigating alien crosstalk.

Document flow of network consulting
This is really going to vary with each customer, but at least for the basics there will be a mutual nondisclosure signed, RFP and/or RFQ, project plans, implementation plans, formal approvals to the plans, contracts, deliverable and periodic review documents, and final close documents (billing, approvals, contract sign off documents).
