I am planning to set up two segments on my network. I would like to ask which logical topology would be best to use and would meet the following criteria:
1. at normal instances, segment A and B would be connected using 1 physical router. The router should detect them as 2 separate network segments.
2. at special instances, segment A and B can also be connected together making them 1 big network.
3. I also want security on the two segments. For instance, how can I prevent malware in segment A from infecting segment b?
another question, do i need to use a network OS (for example windows server) to accomplish this? by the way i am using a linksys router and the computers’ OS varies from XP, vista and 7.

I have lost the facilities to completely remove a wireless connection router … LOL

Some time ago I do remember doing this task, but I have worn this path down to rock running in circles on this one trying to find & remove it.

—From control panel/network & sharing/manage Wireless I get to “manage” networks using that router…but no networks shown & I want to remove/reset that router association on this laptop

-click add network & in range gets me to a ‘connect-to” screen listing “that” router {that has an active Sprint usb modem plugged into it-also=being used & connected to by the gateway in the recent past}

—from control panel/network connections I can disable but not remove nor adjust the settings of this listed router. right click to see properties will show the ‘connection uses’ items box.

—at one point I did attempt to go with renaming this & create a new wireless connect, but hit a wall when pc would not auto establish & offered up the usb to my router option for settings. This is not an option. I/they just have the bytes in disarray here in gatewayVille !!

Any work arround suggestions…

oh, yes there is a sprint dialer package onboard the gateway, yes the wifi/wireless switch is off.

Any good hints/clues/suggestions or work-thru….??

thanks -

i trying to figure out TCP Statistics for IPv4 especially Failed Connection
Attempts .
I would like to understand what value would indicate high as threshold?.
Also i would like to know if appearing of errors of such kind indicate issue
at remote host or local, and what could cause such errors ,network bandwidth
or lack of IO etc..

Thanks
