Seeking info about the cost factor of 3rd party support, as part of the TCO, in relation to Unix to Linux server migrations within the financial IT industry. Is it possible that a mid sized bank (with approx. 10,000 employees) will decide to cancel a planned unix to linux migration of all of the bank’s servers, only due to high costs of 3rd party support ? Any help and opinions would be most welcomed

I am in the position of having to acheive an Exchange migration from 2003 current to 2007 also crossing from domain abc.com to abc.def.com for all applications / users. We also use a mail archiving product (Symantec Enteprise Vault).

I am looking for a recommended approach to the Echange part. I belive the use of a resource Forest for exchange will allow me the easiest route allowing more time for the application side to be planned and exceuted.

Due to a large number of users and mail / archive data this migration will take an extended period of time and the need to maintain calendaring across migrated / unmigrated users is paramount to my business.

Thanks in advanced to anyone who is in a position to enlighten me

I did go through an article from Maria Anderson (Production DBA, Autodesk at http://searchoracle.techtarget.com/answer/Migrating-Oracle9i-database-from-Solaris-to-AIX) but the article was from 10-09-2006. Is the solution provided still stands true? If yes, are there any tools to assist the migration? Also, how much downtime shall we expect for the above database sizes. An approximate downtime based on prior experience will be very helpful for our planning. Thanks, Nikhil
