Starting from scratch, I plan to have 600 users with e-mail, file and print, and Internet services. I will also have 10 servers used as LAN, proxy, and database servers. Two departments will need sufficient bandwidth and access applications from an Oracle server. We are also going to expand to four branch offices located in different states, one with only 5 users needing just a single internet. What hardware components do I need to build the LAN and WAN for all areas?

Have an application server with 2 NICs.

LAN1 = corporate network (in which clients connect to server for app use) LAN2 = DSL internet & remote connection

The application on this server is designed to send alerts to the clients (connected via LAN1) and it also has email functionality (configured using POP3) that needs to be outbound via LAN2 due to LAN1 blocking this traffic.

Right now, LAN1 does not have a default gateway defined which is allowing the email functionality to work just fine, clients can connect to the server’s app via LAN1 fine as well, but the alerts that the app is supposed to send to the client does not work.

When I disable LAN2 completely, clients connect to the server’s app fine and the application successfully sends alerts to the clients as it is designed to do, but the email functionality no longer works because of the blocked outbound traffic.

What is the proper way to set this up? Is it something that can be correcting using static routes? RRAS perhaps?

Hi. I have done CCNA studies 1 & 2 for the last 2 years. I found doing Cisco very interesting and i really want to further my studies to where I am dreaming to become.i am working as an export officer in the company so with the love of doing networking i always try to do what i still remember from my Cisco studies practically to our computers like connecting internet, restoring lost data in the computer and trying to ping computers. Please tell me how to set up the computer in a small network area so that we can send message to one another thats if an extension line is busy so message can just pop up from the side of the screen…it will be easier to communicate rather than waiting for the extension line free.
