A- Yes it is possible to zip a pdf file. B- IBM FTP doesn’t care what the file format is, it will transfer .txt, .asc, .zip, .exe, almost any file. C- It will even hadle .pdf files. The trick is in creation of the ‘PDF’. On a PC you set a PDFwriter as a printer [...]
Depends. Cost – SQL Server Major scalability – Oracle.
Herr Muller, Since it has been almost three weeks and no reply… If you haven’t already done so, the best place to ask this question would be on the MVS-OE and/or IBM-MAIN listservs; you will get a faster response. I assume you also have already checked IBMLink and/or called in a trouble report. IBM-MAIN archives: [...]
If by domain controller you mean a shared file server, then yes. Linux allows multiple ACL’s for SAMBA access by directory groups. If you mean an authentication server like Windows 2k/2k3, then no. NIS can be configured for separate groups and separate file shares. Good luck.
I don’t have any information to support your arguement but I completely agree. HP has been pretty non-comittal when it comes to its proprietary technology: PA RISC, HPUX. I totally see a future of two UNIX variants. Solaris and Linux. This may take a few year to play out so your app may be grandfathered [...]
It depends upon the NAS solution and how you handle failover. Oracle themselves run some large databases on NetApps. I wouldn’t necessarily head to the local computer store and get cheap switches, cheap NAS, and cheap server and expect it to work reliably.
There are several good ones that run in Domino R6.5.3 on top of Linux. http://searchdomino.techtarget.com/tip/1,289483,sid4_gci500563,00.html
Well to me a policy is not dependant on an application/OS. Policies are instructions indicating management?s intent about the operations of the organization. They are high level statements that provide guidance to workers who need to make basic development decisions. Policies are generalized requirements that can contain goals, objectives, controls and responsibilities. Standards make specific [...]
What kind of architecture are you planning? Will this be a trihomed firewall or do you plan on two firewalls with the DMZ in the middle? Do you need failover capability? How secure does this need to be? What services will you allow in/out? What kind of firewall do you plan on using? There are [...]
NO – you can’t. Microsoft Office ‘won’ the desktop against WordPerfect, Lotus, et Al. by having the operating system and the application programmers work together. You are in ‘Word’ and click the print icon and it starts printing. In WordPerfect it opens a dialog box and you have to click ok to start printing. A [...]
Your professor would probably be pleased if you had some perspective on challenges involved. 2600.com has plenty of information in that regard. Good luck! Craig Herberg
Right click the address you want to add to your contacts, then click on ‘add to contacts’.
“howoldami” would be nice…. Seriously though… What is the model number/name on the box Sparc 1, Sparc 10, -> 10-15 years old Sparc Classic, Sparc 5 -> 5-10 years old SuperSparc 5, etc. roughly 5 years, give or take Does it use SCSI or IDE hard drives? Unless it’s a serious server, most Solaris boxes [...]
I am not familiar with the Helius Router, but a quick search indicates it is a directway broadcaster. A one to many stream feed. In any case if you want a content manager/blocker and have a choke point (i.e. one point of access to the internet) and this router appears to be it. Setup a [...]
OK – another deep hole – just love these. Simplest answer is that there is a server (arbitrarily chosen by the appropriate admins) which is THE authority for example.com, and its associated address range 168.192.in-addr.arpa (which covers all of 192.168.x.y). note the reversing of the byte ordering for the address range. Other servers can get [...]
We migrated 4 servers running Windows Oracle databases to one Linux server (Dell Poweredge with external Scsi). The advantage to us is Redhat AS Linux is able to address the 8+ Gig of RAM for Oracle vs only 2 Gig for Windows standard server. The Enterprise CPU licenses we freed from the Windows servers are [...]
Hi, Its a good start, but I think, more than just installing a Linux box doesnt help u much @ first. But dont get disheartened. There are loads of areas where u can develop for linux. Be it App Development,Databases,Embedded Systems , Java, J2EE etc, the list goes on…. . To start off you can [...]
Are you running the same version of Rumba file transfer under NT and XP? In some cases where the Rumba has been upgraded we have found it necessary to rewrite the file transfers due to Rumba compatibility issues from release to release.
Hi, When you type the ping command, your asking the system to send a packet of data, and then wait for a reply.(an echo). The output you see is the size of the ICMP packet sent to the host you specified(google.com or the IP address google resolved to. ) in this case 64 bytes. The [...]
