Which Linux client is best for full encryption on a limited platform?

Okay, I realize “full encryption” might be interpreted in different ways – and my intention is not to start a Linux flame war – but I was hoping to hear some opinions on which Linux clients perform best on limited platforms with full-time data encryption.

Two questions:

1) If 256-bit encryption of all data, including temporary data, were a prime concern – which Linux distros would be on your short list? I don’t wish to be stuck with a boutique Linux with a short life – but I’d be willing to investigate less popular distros, if the security features had merit.

2) Would a limited platform such as a Atom Netbook be able to perform reasonably well with this level of encryption? Yeah, I know, “reasonably well” is another relative term. Obviously, no heavy lifting with the Netbook but I do wish everything encrypted. Just looking for thoughts and opinions. Thanks!

I’m a long-time Mac/PC user and have never (gasp! choke!) never gone down Linux Lane. So maybe I’m going about this all wrong. Maybe any popular Linux would do and there is some wonderful encryption tool that fits the bill instead? The main thing is a Netbook with total encryption that is not bogged down beyond use. Thanks.

Wireless Network design puzzle

I’ve got 30 legacy devices with static IP’s (running linux), they are all connected to two Windows XP servers (acting as backup to one another) through ethernet.

Both servers send broadcasts on the network inviting the legacy devices to connect to whichever is available.

I’m trying to change the whole topology to wireless and was thinking of installing a 3Com WL-524 Access Point to every one of the legacy devices and a higher grade 3Com Wireless 7760 Access Point to the Windows XP servers.

Its like having slave AP(s) communicating with a master AP, but I dont want the slave AP(s) to communicate with each other.

Now my query is will this work ? and what mode should i setup the AP(s) to ?

Client / Bridge / PTP / or PTMP mode ?

I also need the wireless devices to be transparent, thus preserving the static IP(s) currently set.

No internet, no gateways, its just a closed point to multi points network.

Any clues?

Enterprise Debian Linux desktop audio problem

alright heres the problem. I had windows XP and I had a basic media mixer that i used to play everything from line in
I downloaded and intalled debian and things will play from line out however i can not play them from line in.

The problem with this is…line out only plays mono line in plays stereo

The “noapic” error after RHEL5 installed

My system was high configure with 250GB sata HDD,AMD4600 Proccessor, ASUS Motherboard with inbuilt 256 MBPS grafics card, 2GB of RAM Also.. i have ‘noapic’ errer on RHEL5 installed. After install linux with linux noapic option’, whole instolation complete successfully, after reboot the system all services start properly but not open the username and password screen to login in RHEL5.At this system Windows XP was also installed and its working properly what was the problem and how to solve this problem.
