Can I transfer a SQL license/install to a new server

We are in the process of upgrading on of our db applications to a new version. This version will require a replication server, meaning we will need a SQL server. Ether 2003 or 2008.
We will need to have a full working test environment before rolling out live with it.
Can we transfer our “test” install of SQL to our “live” location?
What are the license restrictions to that application?

Server running Server 2003 R2, clients on XP pro and W7, terminal server in house with proper number of CAL’s

Hello All,

I am working with vendor who offers SOAP based web services that I’m trying to use for my company. The web services app/client that I’m builiding will reside on an IIS box, on our company network. The web services require a cert for mutual SSL and another for TLS. The vendor is requesting that I purchase the two certs for this and send the certs to them for installation. I not familiar with how this all works and would like to better understand before I continue down the path of obtaining certs, configuring, etc.

Specifically, I’d like to know if someone can assist in answering the following for me:

1) Are these special certs that I need to purchase?
2) What does the vendor do with the provided certs and what information should I expect to receive from them to ensure a secure handshake?
3) Is the “mutual cert” something that I need to configure (e.g., install on the web server, convert to a file, etc.)

I want to make sure I’m heading down the right path by understand all that needs to happen to form a secure connection with the vendor and what is being requested by them.

Any insight you can offer up would be greatly appreciated!

Transferring MS Office Licenses from one legal entity to another

There is a legal entity that was set-up in order to start-up an operation and the legal entity is meant to temporary until the permanent legal entity can be established. Licenses are being purchased now in name of the temporary legal entity. Can these licenses be transferred to the permanent legal entity once it’s established? What is the process to transfer licenses.

Setting up failover Exchange server?

Can I setup a failover Exchange server with a different priority MX record so if my main server fails my mail will still flow? How can I then point the clients to it? Will I need double licenses for this setup?

How do you manage Windows office licenses for a 400 person company when multiple users sit at multiple machines? Do we purchase licenses for the machines (is that legal?) or for each user and then it follows them wherever they work? Help!

Hi, The IT manager before me bought more licences than we need in our centre. Our centre is a part of the big organization. Could I allocate/donate those extra licenses to other centre within the same organization. Enev though the licensee name and the customer name on the licences is the name of my centre. I am not sure if the licenses bought under Open Volume license aggreement can be tranferable within the same organization

I have a student/Teacher office disc for 3 computers. In the past I have put it on to 3 computers but I now have a new computer and have taken it off one of the others so I can put it on to the new computer. However, I still cannot register it on the new computer. How can I inform microsoft that this is only the 3rd. computer that it will be on. Have I had it with this disc or is there a way to solve this. Thanks Alan Brodie
