  • My Windows Server 2008 R2 – Kernel keeps locking files and folders

My Windows Server 2008 - Kernel keeps locking my files and folders for the past few weeks. When I've deleted a file, it remains locked for about a minute and then was deleted. Other files just remain locked that I can't do anything with. Has anyone encountered this before? If so, what should I do?

  • Testing OS Kernels on a Virtual Machine

I’ve written a C+ Assembly kernel to be used in conjunction with my operating system (Windows 8). I’m having problem testing it though because it cannot easily be run on top of the OS. Is it possible to use a virtual machine to emulate my computers hardware for the test?

How can I have multiple users access our kernel-based virtual machine at the same time? Can we use some sort of screen sharing to get around the 1 user at a time limit?

  • Cost of virtualization and diminishing rate of returns

The following question was recently submitted via e-mail by a user: Using ESXi 3.5. I've seen tests done that usually put the cost of virtualization at 25% when VMs don't share the same kernel, and 10% when they do. I've noticed as you drop cores, the cost of virtualization as a percent of the...
