In an effort to set up some sort of security on the IP traffic between the systems using iSCSI I attempted to implement IPsec. In doing so the Windows iSCSI initiators were no longer able to communicate with the targets. So after removing the settings in the local security policy most of the systems were back up and could see the vhds with the exception of one. This system can actually see the targets but whenever I try and create a session it gives me the error “The Target name is not found or is marked hidden from login”. An interesting note is that when I try and discover the host system through a specific portal it won’t show the targets, only when I set my iSNS server (which is the same machine). My suspicion is that the configuration settings from when I tried to set it up to use IPSec is still in there and flushing that out would do the trick. I would even be fine with reinstalling the initiator software if I could figure out how to uninstall it. (This system is using Windows Server 2008 R2 Enterprise). Jeez I’m just getting scatterbrained now, any ideas?

Currently I have HP SAN environment setup using ISCSI. The servers within the SAN are connected straight to the network via Cat5 cable. The servers are connected to the array and Initiator via ISCSI.

The issue I am having is the 3 servers I have connected to the initiator do not reconnect upon reboot. When I go to log on to the target I always make sure to select the box stating “Automatically restore this connection when the system boots”. I thought that was the handler for this situation however it does not always come back up.

I’ve looked at Event Viewer during the time that the system reboots and came across Event ID 10 stating “Login Request failed. The login response packet is given in the dump data.”

Any help?
