I’ve placed an old hard drive in a USB external enclosure to rtrieve files. When I try to access the drive I get a message that the drive has not been initalized. How can I accomplish initializing the drive?

Can we monitor SMART hard drive status via Active Directory or via SpiceWorks to know before a potential hard drive failure? How would this work. Client machines are XP and 7.

We are about to scrap several old copy machines. I know they have hard drives in them. Should they be removed, wiped or what are normal company procedures for destroying any potential data on it before decommissioning it.

What are the signs that my RAID array is dying? Are there checks I can run? Can I add a hot spare to a RAID array with 6 disks in it? Will this help if one drive fails? What if multiple drives fail, what do I do then?
