With power costs increasing significantly, more hardware per rack creating more heat and using more power and cooling solutions, it seems that power rather than space seems to be the limiter amongst data centers.

We have a T2 data center and are attempting to “go green” and lower the energy usage in the DC. Our goal is to reach a T3 or even a T4. What would be the first steps you would suggest to take to save the most energy as soon as possible? Cover all holes in the floor? Blanking plates?

I’m writing a definition for “pre-green bill” and need help. Cisco says to take your company’s electric bill and determine how much is going towards the data center. They’re calling it the “pre-green bill.” My question is how do you do that? Cisco doesn’t say.
