You might have a compression program installed or your computer is looking at the file header and not the extension, so it is reading the file wrong. Check IE settings and see if it is opening the files based on their header. Go to Tools-> Internet Options-> Security tab-> Trusted Sites.

You need to configure your Outlook to use Plain Text. Switch if you are using Rich text or HTML format. This should resolve the issue.

Check the email rules for this problem. For Outlook 2007, go to Tools-> Rules and Alerts-> Email Rules. If there is an option to send all emails to junk folder, just uncheck it. Hope this helps.
Adding external email addresses will not be good. You would have to create mail enabled contacts for all of them. It is very difficult to maintain. What you can do is use a public folder. Create a CSV of your data, import it to Outlook as contacts and just drag them to the public folder.
