In my company we’re considering leaving MS CRM v3.0 (we’ve just been using two of its features: address book and task management. Only.)

As the license prices of CRM are quite high we’ve thought it might be a pretty nice idea to try to figure out if there’s a possibility to configure Exchange 2007 that way so we could use it as:
- ‘relative’ global address book (by ‘relative’ I mean ‘having linked company-contact’ = under a particular company view you can see persons which worked for this company; it means you first create a company and then the contacts; the company could be chosen from a list which is searchable; by ‘global’ I mean visible to all those people who are inside the domain; it would be wonderful if you can set permission rights);
- global task management which is linked to a particular company (task is visible from contact list view – inside particular contact/company; task is global – could be visible by all, but you can narrow the number of users).

I (personally) believe it’s possible to build such a solution. The question is – how

Looking forward to seeing your thoughts, guys!

TIA

Damian

In our environment there was a lady who updated all her contacts (for her and all corporate) with phone numbers, mailing address, names etc… for both internal and external contacts. We are running exchange 2007 and I want to import the internal contacts info to our GAL but not the external contacts. The internal contacts are already apart of the system just with no information in there names And was thinking about adding the external contacts to a public folder list.

Is there a way I can grant access for a user to update the rest of the 1000+ users information fields without giving them access to the AD?

Can you help me out?
