Hello All-
I’ve recently set up a second Exchange 2003 (sp2) server in our domain on a new member server. The intention is to eventually remove Exchange entirely from the first Win2k3 SBS. The installation went smooth and the transfer of mailboxes off of the first server and onto the second was very smooth and seemless to the end users. We haven’t taken the first Exchange offline yet, though, because we can’t tap into the router to change the port forwarding to the new server’s IP.

The problem I’m now having, though, is that many emails to the outside world are generating underliverable notices and seem to be getting flagged as spam. I have looked up our IP on mxtoolbox.com to make sure we’re not blacklisted. Why all of a sudden would our emails seem to be spamish now with a second server? Is there maybe something I missed in the configuration? I’d like to think that this problem will go away once we take the old Exchange server offline and get mail delivery to/from the new one directly with the correct router port forwarding. But until then….is there something I need to tweak on the servers themselves? DNS issue? Reverse lookup issue? Relay?

Thanks much.

Our Exchange 2000 Server runs on a Windows 2000 SP4 server and was the only Exchanger server on the network (BDC). The hard drive in the Exchange 2000 server failed completely. I do have a backup of the information store created using Windows Native Backup utility.

So what are the correct recovery steps? I have done the following:

1. I put in a new hard drive into the server and installed a fresh copy of Windows 2000 server.
2. I named it the same name as the old server.
3. I installed all the service packs and updates on the new server

I am thinking of doing the following:
1. Join this server to the domain and make it a BDC.
2. Install Exchange 2000 on the server
3. Restore information store from my backup copy.

Does this sound right? Am I forgetting anything? Will my current AD complain about the new server with the old server’s name? When I install Exchange 2000 again, will that mess up the AD?

Thanks for your help!

Best,
Lanny

Just been asked to restore a users mail box that left a few months back, pre migration…

Well I can restore it off tape, but does anyone know if I can import an Excahnge 2003 storage group directly into Exchange 2007, or do I have to build up a new 2003 box and use the migration tools?

Thanks
