MOSS 2007, Excel 2003 document opens in read only mode

Salaam, I am using Windows XP Version 5.1, Service Pack 2 and MS Office 2003 SP3. On Some Sharepoint sites, when I open an MS Excel document, it opens in read only mode. I mapped the network drive and opened from there, but was still opening in read only mode. Other Office documents like, word,...
